When Deprez Handling Solutions needed to further specialize its automated warehouse solutions, they approached Cabek to fill a key role.
The storage challenge
Deprez Handling Solutions in Belgium develops machinery for growing potatoes, carrots, and onions, as well as handling bulk and recyclable materials. It operates automated box handling systems that originally used wooden pallet boxes to transport materials. However, over the years, customers began requesting more specialized systems from Deprez, including intermediate storage of products before packaging. To achieve this, Deprez needed hygienic, food-safe storage containers with maximum capacity—wooden containers were not an option.
Industry Need, Cabek's Solution
Company co-founder Johan Deprez developed an automated system to handle storage mechanics, but needed a suitable container. He found one in the form of a Cabka pallet box.
Food-Ready: The pallet box is made of food-safe HDPE that is impact and chemical resistant.
● High capacity and stackability: Its volume is 1400 litres and it is designed to be stacked safely up to seven high, with a load capacity of 7000 kg.
● Safe temperature: They can be used in conditions from minus 30 to plus 50 degrees Celsius.
In the Deprez configuration, an optical system sorts potatoes by size and then places them in pallet boxes. Depending on the classification, the potatoes are either stored or sent to a packaging line. A special machine automatically empties the boxes, meaning the entire process is automated—from product arrival to shipment.
Benefits for the customer
"Our solution wouldn't exist without the pallet box," says Deprez. Wooden boxes aren't food safe—not to mention heavy. The pallet box weighs just 69 kg with perforations, or 72 kg when closed.
